Small Town Proposes Arizona Style Immigration Law
Published on 08/03/2010
A Summersville councilman states that the new city ordinance was, in part, prompted by the Justice Department challenge to the controversial Arizona immigration law.
The law, proposed in this town of 45,000, was also passed for fear that there was a void in existing local immigration ordinances. Opponents of the law say that immigration is a federal, and not local issue.
The ordinance is currently being reviewed by attorneys before it is voted upon by the city council.
Key parts of the Arizona immigration legislation were blocked last Wednesday by a federal judge.
