Do I have to get my green card renewed?

Do I have to get my green card renewed if it expires before I take the oath? I passed the interview already but I am waiting for the background check.

The short answer is no. You have a permanent green card, though it is smart to get it renewed when it expires, or before. If you have an application for naturalized citizenship, it is a smart thing to get your green card renewed before your citizenship interview. Best to you.

You are probably OK if your green card expires, but why take the risk - it is easy to renew.
